The final exam will be comprehensive covering major topics presented throughout the semester.

Project: Proposed teams and topics due September 15th. Students will work in teams to asses a current topic in optoelectronics or photonics and complete a 10 page term paper due November 15th.

All written work is to be unique and written entirely by the group.

Paraphrasing is allowed, but copying of as much as a single sentence from any source must be quoted and referenced.

The Hollow Core Fibre research group is based in the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton in the UK.

It conducts world-leading research on hollow core fibres, a type of optical fibre that guides light in an air core by surrounding it with a carefully constructed web of thin glass membranes.

The term paper should be written in the format of a peer reviewed journal article summarizing the state of the art in that particular topic area.

Focus should not be placed primarily on products currently sold, but on research being performed for next generation devices. An example paper is provided to refer to for format and writing style.
