Whichever style of argument you choose, you will still need to choose an appropriate topic for an argumentative essay.An argument essay is best served by a topic that can be argued strongly either for or against.Your essay should be 5-6 paragraphs in which you will criticize an argument, describe how it could be improved, and reiterate that is it overall weak and unconvincing.

Once you’ve finished your essay, take some time before you go back to edit it.

When you’re ready to edit your argumentative essay, pay close attention to the following issues: A successful argumentative essay isn’t hard to achieve.

Here’s what an outline for an argumentative essay can look like: Introduction - Give some background on your topic so the reader knows what you’re going to talk about. For example, if the topic is gun control you could cite a statistic about the number of deaths by firearms in the US per year or a quote from a parent who lost a child in a school shooting.

Try to address some of these questions in your introduction: why is this topic important? The introduction should also include your thesis statement where you take a side on the issue.

Instead of taking a position on a controversy, you read someone else’s argument and comment on the flaws and unproven assumptions in that argument.

There is only one opinion you can have: the argument is flawed and the conclusion can no be accepted based on the current information and reasoning.

An argumentative essay is an essay which purpose is to present evidence to support an idea.

For example, you might write an essay arguing that military service should be mandatory.

For instance, if you are asked to provide some questions that will need to be answered in order to assess the validity of the argument, state explicitly in your response that there are some questions that need to be answered–and then list some of those questions and provide some possible, theoretical answers that would either strengthen or weaken the argument.

Remember to practice writing at least 2-3 full essays within the time constraint before Test Day!
