AQA GCE Product Design: Textiles (2560) Advanced Subsidiary (AS 1561) Course description The course is been designed to encourage candidates to take a broad view of design and technology, to develop their capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, textile materials, manufacture and marketing.

Unit 3: Fibre types, shape and formation of fibres, Woven, Knitted and Non-Woven fabrics, open fabric structures, Influence of new technology, British Standards, Yarns, Blends, Smart and Modern Fabrics.

If you choose to study any of the D&T courses at KS4, you will experience working in different disciplines and learn a wide range of design and practical skills. Students can choose from: Food & Nutrition, Product Design and Textiles.

Specification GCSE (9-1) WJEC Eduqas Course Description As part of this three year GCSE course, students complete the Jamie Oliver BTEC Level 2 in Home Cooking skills.

To further enrich student’s involvement in Design & Technology, we offer a number of extra-curricular activities during lunchtimes and after school.

These range from clubs, coursework catch-up and drop in sessions in food, product design and textiles.The coursework module involves students in producing a portfolio which demonstrates their creativity and flair when investigating, designing and making graphic products.The written examination is knowledge based and focuses on materials and components, industrial and commercial practices, Quality and Health and Safety.At EWS we have well equipped specialist rooms for teaching Food Technology, Product Design, Graphics and Textiles.We have laser cutting technology in the department for all year groups to use to help realise their designs.They encompasses a wide range of design disciplines but are firmly rooted in the skills required to design and make high quality products that are fit for purpose, satisfy wants and needs, enhance our day-to-day lives and most importantly, give students the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity.There are new AS and A level Design & Technology courses available in draft form which, when accredited, will be for first teaching in September 2017.Computer Aided Design, in relation to textile manufacture, is explored and students will understand procedures used throughout industry. This is sat at the end of Year 11 and tests students’ knowledge and understanding of materials and processes through a combination of short, long and drawing style questions.The influences of environmental, social and ethical issues, surrounding textile manufacturing, are also covered. There is one tier of assessment covering grades A*-G. Unit 2: Designing and making Practice - 60% of total marks.
